Project Introduction

The Quadium Project is HCI's submission to the Google Summer of Code. We plan to turn the current Squeak plugin for Firefox into a proper client for surfing the World Wide Web. Planned improvements include better browser integration, multiple fonts, standard menus available from a right mouse-click, native use of SVG graphics, and a themeable interface. When complete, the client will dynamicly re-size and reshape incoming content so it fits properly into a window of any size or shape. Dynamic reshaping will make content look professional regardless of monitor size or shape. The Quadium client will be fully Smalltalk enabled to allow easier creation of browser-based programs and client-server applications. Security will be carefully integrated. Use of the Quadium client will not require any changes to the web server.

The Quadium Project will also implement a Web Composer that runs atop the Smalltalk Morphic environment. This composer will allow non-programmers to do high-level content creation in Squeak without learning to program, or to extend the same content using the full power of Smalltalk.
